Abstract
Mechanical transmission systems are often used to convert the torque-speed ratio and transmit power for movements of different natures. In transmission by spur gears, non- entrapment clearances can cause effects that impair the description of the system dynamics as a linear model (non-linearities) that, in some cases, must be identified and compensated. This work aims to identify a non-linearity caused by gaps between a spur gears pair in a mechanical transmission system using NARMAX polynomial models, the proposed approach uses the similarities between a system with hysteresis and one with backlash. The results present that the established techniques for the identification of systems with hysteresis can also be applied to systems with backlash.
