Abstract
The design and simulation of a fuzzy controller to a multilevel static compensator (STATCOM) connected to a low-voltage grid is presented, operating in order to maintain the power factor always close to unity. An H-bridge with a T cell in one of the legs is used as a DC- AC converter in the compensator. It is described the operation principle of the STATCOM and details of the controller’s design, such as fuzzy sets and rules created. Operations with loads of several natures and intensities were simulated and in all of them, the controller presented a good performance, confirming its applicability along with the STATCOM in power factor control.
