Abstract

The paper presents an asymmetric three-phase modeling of Transmission Lines (TLs) in an important operational region of a Brazilian energy utility. Using real data, the modeling was performed with the aid of MATLAB. The model validation was carried out by comparing the results with the design values provided by the utility. Then, it was verified the degree of influence of certain factors variation (soil resistivity, temperature and catenary sag) in relation to the values of the TL parameters. Finally, from the steady-state analysis through the load flow study, some benefits were found regarding the use of asymmetric three-phase modeling for static analysis of TLs due to its greater precision compared to the positive sequence modeling usually considered.
