Abstract

This paper proposes adjusting the parameters of supplementary damping controllers, power system stabilizers (PSSs), and static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) - power oscillation damping (POD), utilizing a competition-based optimization algorithm, the league championship algorithm (LCA). The goal is to add extra damping to the electromechanical oscillations found in electrical power systems (EPSs). The current sensitivity model (CSM) is used to represent the EPS. In this study, all devices and components of the EPS are modeled through current injection, including the SSSC. The proposal is tested on a system with 4 generators, 10 buses, and 15 transmission lines divided into two areas, experiencing both local and inter-area oscillations. The results show the outstanding performance of the proposed algorithm, as it effectively adds damping to the oscillatory modes. This positions it as a robust tool for studying and analyzing the small-signal stability of electrical power systems.
