Abstract

This study evaluates the theoretical potential of tidal energy generation in the Boqueirão Channel, located in the São Marcos Bay, Maranhão, Brazil, using an array of diffuser-augmented turbine in an area of 1.5 km2. The site is recognized for its intense tidal current variation and significant energy potential. The turbine park configuration was defined based on a simplified model, inspired by the actuator disc theory for turbine blades and analyzing the length of the generated turbulence wake. The study examines the energy impact in three different scenarios: without lateral spacing between the turbines, with lateral spacing of 1D (one turbine diameter in meters), and 1.5D (one and a half turbine diameter in meters), all maintaining a longitudinal spacing of 15D (fifteen turbine diameters in meters).
