Abstract

Electric vehicles are emerging as efficient replacements for traditional vehicles, starting a global transition in fleet vehicles, where greenhouse gas emissions are reduced, progressing towards more sustainable transportation. Furthermore, electric vehicles are more efficient than internal combustion engine vehicles. On the other hand, electric vehicles represent an additional load on conventional power grids, which were not originally designed to accommodate this expanded demand. Thus, considering the increasing number of them, it is relevant to develop tools to estimate city areas with a high chance of electric vehicle acquisition. This study uses spatial data analysis and an analytic hierarchy process to estimate regions with a high purchase probability. The results are essential decision-making tools for power utilities to strengthen the power grid in areas with high electric vehicle charging. This study found that the central and mid-west regions have 19 census tracts, with an estimate for acquiring electric vehicles greater than 50%.
