Abstract

This paper describes a prototype of a photovoltaic Module characterizer that uses the capacitive load method. The system is controlled by a Gate Driver circuit operated by the ESP32 microcontroller, which collects voltage measurements during the capacitor charging process and calculates the subsequent current signal. Additionally, it has its own interface that allows communication with the device via the internet. This functionality enables access to and control of the characterizer through mobile devices, eliminating the need to install additional applications. Due to its simplicity, the device is low-cost compared to commercial versions, which generally use two sensors—one to measure current and another to measure the voltage of the photovoltaic Module. In the proposed methodology, only one voltage sensor is used, which is a distinctive feature of this work.
