Abstract

This paper addresses the problem of optimal allocation of distributed generators in islanded microgrids to minimize energy losses over a one-year horizon divided into three load levels. As a key contribution, a hybrid methodology is employed, combining a binary Genetic Algorithm (GA) for solving the discrete part of the problem with an Optimal Power Flow (OPF) suitable for islanded microgrids, aimed at solving the continuous part. The OPF considers nodal voltage limits, power generation, and frequency, including the droop effect of dispatchable distributed generators connected to the grid. The methodology is evaluated on a 33-bus islanded microgrid, and the results are compared with those obtained through exhaustive search.
