Abstract

This paper presents a novel approach for the estimation of transmission line parameters based on the formulation of an optimization problem in which the objective function is defined by the weighted least squares criterion. In the proposed formulation, the line is modeled based on its quadrupole representation and the problem variables are treated in rectangular coordinates. To validate the proposed method, power-hardware-in-the-loop simulations are conducted by RTDS (Real Time-Digital Simulator) using real physical measurement units. In this case, transmission systems are simulated in the RSCAD software, the voltage and current signals are exported to the RTDS being measured by phasor measurement units. Based on the obtained measurements, transmission line parameters are determined in real time. The digital simulations are conducted in two different laboratories geographically distant from each other, belonging to UFJF and UFABC universities, in order use the resources of the corresponding laboratories and foster an interinstitutional partnership of research groups belonging to INERGE (Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia em Energia Elétrica).
