Abstract

This paper presents the modeling of an inverter welding power source for the Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process, in order to assist the design of its control and drive. The main components of an inverter welding power source and the GMAW process are presented, followed by the proposal of a switched model for the electrical behavior of the system and the identification procedure for this model. Specifications for a current control system are formalized, which aims to optimize welding quality and efficiency. Finally, the current control project is presented, which consists of a switched PI controller, as well as simulations illustrating the closed-loop performance of the system.
