Abstract

This paper proposes a discussion about the attractivity of current energy services business models when applied to condominium microgrids, i.e., microgrids that supply residential clients. To do so, it is considered a case study of a real condominium microgrid located in Campinas–SP, Brazil, also known as ConGRID, composed of a roof-based photovoltaic plant and a battery energy storage system. Aspects of Brazil’s legal regulation related to electricity market consumers, distributed generation and microgrids are presented, along with a characterization of the most suited business models for such applications. The benefits and drawbacks of each model are listed, considering the ConGRID study case. Also, a comparative analysis between these models is provided, taking into account the potential service quality gains that can be achieved by condominium microgrids.
