Abstract

The increasing penetration of distributed photovoltaic generation (PV) into the distribution system is bringing about significant changes in the system's load profile, leading to new challenges related to network planning and operation. Among these challenges, a key one is the assessment of technical losses, a crucial process for distribution system operators (DSOs). Defining a calculation method that reflects the current characteristics of the distribution system is essential to make the technical loss assessment process more accurate. In this context, this paper presents a methodology to integrate distributed photovoltaic systems into the technical loss calculation model using power flow, in order to investigate its impact on the total amount of technical loss calculated. The proposed model is based on measurement information collected by the bidirectional meters of the consumer units, to respect the energy balance of the system.
