Abstract

Direct current microgrids have aroused significant interest due to their operational efficiency and their ability to integrate with renewable energy sources. However, the presence of constant power loads represents a potential challenge to the stability of these systems, due to the negative incremental impedance effect. To assess stability in this specific context, the Middlebrook criterion, which examines the relation between system input and output impedances, was employed in this analysis. In this scenario, the output impedance of the microgrid power supply was inserted into the system model, and the H∞ norm was used in order to reduce this output impedance. The control method was compared with two other methodologies, minimizing the H∞ norm and pole allocation, all based on Linear Matrix Inequalities. These approaches were then subjected to a load power variation test, and the analysis of the results consisted of both qualitative aspects related to the state trajectories and quantitative performance indices.
