Abstract

The increasing use of nonlinear loads in distribution networks directly impacts the levels of harmonic distortion in electrical systems. Concurrently, the high cost of power quality meters presents challenges in identifying and reducing sources of harmonic pollution. In this context, a new approach is proposed to estimate the harmonic state and power flow, based on the Jaya algorithm, known for its simplicity of adjustment. This methodology is implemented and applied to the IEEE 14-bus system, and the results are compared with those obtained by the methodology based on the Evolutionary Strategies algorithm, which has the disadvantage of requiring a series of parameters. The simulation results using Jaya algorithm has a lower average error and computational effort using fewer input parameters when compared to the Evolutionary Strategies algorithm.
