Abstract

In this work, we present an approach for voltage control in systems used for testing high voltage electrical equipments. This approach consists of tuning a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller using the reference model adaptive control (MRAC) method. The PID controller is tuned by a mechanism that optimizes the system output to converge to the reference model during the test. The tuning mechanism is a gradient-based method for real-time adaptation of PID controller parameters. This approach is necessary since each tested equipment presents a different dynamic characteristic. The results presented show that the proposed approach is applicable for real-time tuning of the PID controller when applied to high voltage electrical equipment testing devices.
