Abstract

Wind energy is a source that has been expanding in the Brazilian electrical matrix over the past few years. Currently in Brazil there are only onshore plants, there are no offshore units installed yet. However, there are ongoing studies and projects for its development. The potential for offshore wind energy generation in Brazil is considered quite promising, especially in the Northeast and South coastal regions, where the winds are stronger and more constant. However, commercial wind turbines used in wind farms use power electronics devices that produce harmonic currents, affecting the electrical energy quality at the point of coupling point. For a Wind Farm to access the electric power transmission network, the National Electric System Operator (ONS, in Portuguese) requires some studies that prove that the project can connect to the Basic Grid. One of these studies is the Electrical Energy Quality study, presented on this work, in which the responsible for the wind project must carry it out to present the impacts of harmonic distortions and the measures to mitigate these effects, if necessary.
