Abstract

This article presents the development and manufacturing of an educational temperature control bench with an experimental plant, designed with low-cost and easily accessible hardware, for educational purposes. The modeling methodology and controller design developed for this bench can be modified to allow testing different methods that are taught in the classroom. The proposed control system was identified using the reaction curve, and from this identification, different control methods can be applied, including the classic Ziegler-Nichols method, which was used in this project. The structure of the bench offers the possibility of expansion to address the control of other quantities, such as luminosity, cooling, and direct current motor speed (coolers). It is flexible, allowing the application of different identification methodologies and controller design and testing. Additionally, the bench is easily reproducible with all technical specifications and necessary scripts available in an online repository. The bench provides a robust, economical and didactic solution for teaching and learning temperature control in industrial and laboratory processes.
