Abstract

WAMPAC systems have emerged as an alternative approach to address dynamic conditions in interconnected electrical systems. With the increasing power grid digitization, technologies and communication models to improve these systems have been developed according to standards such as IEEE C37.118 and IEC 61850-90-5. The last one proposes using the R-SV and R-GOOSE protocols to send synchrophasor data. However, as these protocols are limited to a few relay manufacturers, this study aims to assess the feasibility of employing the MMS protocol for synchrophasor data transmission as an alternative to wide-area monitoring.
