Abstract

This study investigates the complementarity between solar and wind energy through the analysis of hybrid plant capacity factor data using the open data from the Brazilian National Electric System Operator (ONS). Six wind farms were evaluated in combination with photovoltaic plants (PV), analyzing the optimal PV generation capacity for each pair of plants. The results demonstrated effective complementarity between the sources, where solar generation compensates for periods of low wind generation. The statistical metrics used have shown satisfactory values, indicating the robustness of the analyses. This study provides valuable insights for the planning and development of hybrid plants aimed at optimizing energy generation and promoting the transition to a more sustainable energy system.
