Abstract

The growing use of photovoltaic systems in Brazil brings significant benefits, on the other side also. One of the main consequences is the presence of reverse power flow (RPF), which directly impacts the stability of the electrical grid. To mitigate RPF, utility companies adopt strategies such as injecting electricity at times different from generation, made possible by the use of battery banks. However, this topic is still relatively new in the Brazilian market, making its effective implementation difficult. Given the significant allocation of financial resources required for the installation of an energy storage system, it is essential to explore strategies that can mitigate the RPF problem and, at the same time, financially enable the installation of these photovoltaic systems. This study aims to clarify the battery bank sizing process and demonstrate how the analysis of the simultaneity factor can reduce the costs associated with the installation of these systems.
