Abstract

Network reconfiguration stands out as a cost-effective solution to increase the DER hosting capacity. Nevertheless, the modification of network topology may cause adverse effects on other performance indicators of the distribution system, e.g., voltage deviation and power losses. For this reason, this paper conducts a comprehensive multi-objective analysis by simultaneously assessing the impacts of network reconfiguration on DER hosting capacity, voltage deviation, and power losses. Furthermore, the concepts of dominance are applied to classify the identified solutions, while the Fuzzy Decision Making method is used to define the final solution. Based on the analysis of 15,360 radial topologies in the IEEE 33-bus system, it was observed that improving all three performance indicators simultaneously is not feasible, revealing a trade- off relationship among the system’s topologies. Consequently, this article assists the systems operators in the decision-making process by aligning with their priorities.
