Abstract

The diffusion of electric vehicles as a mode of transportation, supported by market growth despite the COVID-19 pandemic, highlights the appeal of the product and the transformation of the urban mobility cenary. This study proposes a probabilistic methodology for evaluating the hosting capacity of fast-charging electric vehicle charging stations within the operational voltage stability limits of electrical networks, aiming to support operation and expansion planning. After modeling the electrical network and conducting continuous load flow analysis, PV curve data is used to develop algorithms focused on stochastic placement of charging stations considering uncertainties in location, quantity of stations, and power consumption. The proposed methodology is implemented in the metropolitan region of Manaus, facing periodic load growth and the connection of charging stations. The experiments conducted reveal that the electrical network in question is not prepared in the long term to meet the growing demand for electric power represented by charging stations, necessitating alternatives for coordinating charging and expanding the electrical network in the metropolitan region of Manaus.
