Abstract

The economic optimization of an automatic steel gas distribution system occurs when the gas holders operate close to their limits. However, this optimal strategy increases the chances of operational failures or losses of gases into the atmosphere when there are disturbances in the production or consumption of these gases between the optimization periods, which may vary between 10 and 15 minutes. To mitigate these risks, this article integrates an infinite horizon predictive controller with zones into the optimization layer of the gas distribution system. The predictive controller must maintain the gasometer levels within the operational limits, considering the measurable disturbances of the gases made available to the thermoelectric plants, so that the control signals (boiler gas flows) follow the targets determined by the optimizer.
