Abstract

Abstract: This paper presents a computational analysis of a boost converter using a superconductor coil and compares it with the same converter using a copper coil, for different operation temperatures. The converter's voltage gain and efficiency are analysed and compaired for different scenarios. Circuit simulations are performed using the Simulink by Matlab software and Finite Element Method (MEF) simulations are performed using the Comsol software with the J-A formulation. It is realized that the greater voltage gain and efficiency are obtained using the superconductor coil. Furthermore, it is noticed that an efficiency improvement is reached when cables, connections and semiconductors switches resistances are reduced, however, this strategy may increase the AC losses in the superconductor.
