Abstract

Microgrids have proven to be a viable solution for integrating renewable energy sources and energy storage systems. They can operate connected to the utility grid, promoting reduced energy purchases or in an isolated manner, ensuring resilience and reliability. Energy storage systems are essential in microgrids, as the power electronic converters that integrate them ensure a smooth transition from connected to disconnected mode during a utility grid outage. In this context, this paper presents methodologies for testing the functionalities of energy storage systems based on specific approaches for case studies of two microgrids: the Alcântara Launch Center in the state of Maranhão and the University of Campinas in the state of São Paulo. These methodologies enable preliminary study and validation of the functionalities of the energy storage system, taking into account the microgrid control strategies, thereby avoiding technical problems during the commissioning and operation of the microgrid.
