Abstract

This paper presents a methodology for distributed generation planning in distribution systems with the aim of maximizing the hosting capacity of renewable distributed resources in the power grid. The methodology is based on the application of a genetic algorithm combined with a nonlinear programming model that maximizes the hosting capacity given a decision on distributed generation allocation. To do so, scenarios with equipment called soft open points in the network are considered, as distributed resources that impact the hosting capacity. Therefore, evaluating the influence of these resources on hosting capacity is also the objective of this article. Results are presented for the well-known in the literature 33-bus system, which demonstrate the advantages of the soft open point and the applicability of the presented planning methodology.
