Abstract

Currently, researchers and engineers have been dedicated to the development of more efficient and cost-effective implementation strategies to minimize the technical impacts caused by the connection of Electric Vehicle (EV) and Photovoltaic Distributed Generation (DGPV) in a Low- Voltage Distribution Network (LVDN). Although the embedded controls in DGPV inverters and EV chargers stand out for the aforementioned requirements, the costs incurred by national utilities are not evident during the joint operation of DGPV and EV under Volt-VAr control. This article presents an evaluation of the costs to utilities due to technical losses and compensations paid to consumers given the violation of voltage limits in steady-state conditions for LVDNs subjected to the joint connection of DGPV and EV with Volt-Var control. In this study, the networks are defined, along with the curves of EV chargers and PVDG, and residences with the joint connection of DGPV and EV. The simulations are based on a gradual increase in the combined penetration level in steps of 20%. The results obtained for two real networks demonstrate the high costs of compensation compared to technical losses and the effectiveness of local Volt-Var control in reducing overall operational costs for the utility.
