Abstract
Considering the difficulties in treating children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the high cost of assistive technology robots, this study addresses functional alternatives for the development of an affordable robot to assist in therapeutic treatment. The Otto robot assists in the verbalization, learning, and social interaction of children with neurodevelopmental disorders, through carefully designed functionalities for use in therapeutic sessions. The attractive design of Otto captures the focused attention of children, and the integrated internal modules of the robot enable the reproduction of short phrases, gestures, and dancing, providing new solutions for the planning of therapeutic sessions and consequently facilitating rehabilitation, with improvements in communication, motor skills, and social interaction for children with ASD.
