Abstract

The modernization of a legacy system through the retrofit process involves a comprehensive update of an older system, aiming to enhance features such as performance, security, and functionality. The proposed methodology seeks to align retrofitting with the core principles and requirements of Industry 4.0. This methodology provides a step-by-step guide for the implementation of retrofit, enabling an efficient and financially viable upgrade of legacy systems. Therefore, the application of this approach allows for the exploration of the advantages offered by Industry 4.0, such as improving the efficiency, flexibility, and functional reliability of the system. Finally, depending on the level of investment in the retrofit process, it’s possible to expand the capacity of the updated systems, enabling data collection and interpretation, refining their operations, and providing support for decision-making.
