Abstract

The vanadium flow batteries have been widely studied for the management of electric power systems. In this context, the present work aims to evaluate the theoretical distribution of vanadium ions and their overpotencial profiles in vanadium flow batteries based on the concentration of vanadium ions, flow velocity, and current density. The results showed that the ions concentrate, mostly, in the regions close to the collectors and membrane. Furthermore, it demonstrated that the ionic conversion rate is proportional to the electrolyte flow rate, although the generated potential decreases in extreme situations. Besides, better overpotencial were obtained at intermediate current density values.
