Abstract

Energy management in the Brazilian scenario is essential to promote preventive actions in the face of exceeding demand, with the aim of increasing competitiveness, promoting sustainability and minimizing costs for consumers. With the advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT), alternatives have emerged to monitor energy demand remotely, providing more effective management strategies. However, some of the existing solutions suggest replacing old but necessary equipment. This underscores the importance of adopting retrofit approaches, integrating modern resources into existing electrical infrastructures in order to optimize their management. In this perspective, this study presents a retrofit approach to monitor demand overruns in legacy building infrastructures. To validate the proposal, it was decided to develop embedded platforms that monitor circuits in electrical distribution boards and a software that links these devices, allowing the real-time visualization of the captured data. Through a case study, we monitor demand peaks to implement energy consumption optimization measures in the analyzed installation. The results point to a promising methodology for improving energy management, maximizing the use of existing resources.
