Abstract
In the mining industry, bins are used as buffers to store material and smooth out variations in the rate of ore transported between processes. The level control of these bins is an essential task to maintain the operational continuity of activities. In this work, a override controller was proposed for the tertiary crushing circuit of Serra Sul, Vale S.A. The intention is that the new control strategy in override improves the operational continuity of the circuit through the low level controller of the bins. Results of the practical application, showed a reduction of approximately 83% in the occurrences of microstops related to the operated hours. This new strategy did not compromise the crushers chamber level and resulted in an increase in crushing efficiency through process stability..
