Abstract

In accordance with the advancement of technology and the necessity to make the production process more competitive and within an adequate margin cost, It’s been coming some requirements in industry that are speed variations in production process. Thus, frequency converters/inverters appear as a solution to equalize this problem, however the application of frequency converters in old industrial plants brings some inconveniences such as: increased harmonics in the system, reduced power factor and reduced voltage level on a permanent basis. Industrial plants usually already have a system to filter harmonics and correct the power factor of the installation at the coupling point (PAC), however it is necessary to reassess the system and propose some action to extend the useful life and application of the existing filter, thus reducing the mitigation costs. In this study, a real case of filtering system rearrangement and power factor correction of an installation will be presented.
