Abstract

As electric vehicles and renewable energy expand, there is also a need to investigate new methods of lightning protection for these new technologies. This paper aims to evaluate the performance of electric vehicle charging systems against lightning during their transitory regime. Models of two charging stations, one connected to the AC power network and the other disconnected, were used for the simulations. Additionally, a lightning transient model were used too. The results of this paper showed the changes in the waveforms at the input and output of the circuits, making it possible to assess which points are more vulnerable, requiring a better protection.
