Abstract

This paper presents an application of the Hilbert-Huang transform and the traveling wave theory for fault location in transmission lines, using data from two terminals, for a test system with a 200 km long transmission line between two voltage sources. The MATLAB/Simulink® software was used to simulate different fault conditions and analyze the voltage signals, through the programmed algorithm, to estimate the fault location. The numerical and graphical results obtained proved the efficiency and high precision in locating the fault for the methodology used, when compared to the techniques found in the literature, considering all types of faults, different fault occurrence locations and fault resistances.
