Abstract

The battery energy storage systems (BESS) have been gaining notoriety in recent years due to the high penetration of renewable energies in distributed generation. It has the main goal of providing a dispatchable and reliable generation source. This study details the implementation of a BESS with a bidirectional converter as the interface between the battery bank and the supply network. The converter’s modeling and control equations are presented, as well as the experimental results obtained with a 10kVA prototype. Thus, this work presents a complete characterization of a system capable of carrying out the process of Lead Acid Battery charging and discharging, energy supply and ancillary services.
