Abstract
The growth of distributed generation, especially from renewable sources, is a global trend, driven by increasing energy demand combined with environmental and economic issues. In this sense, the agents of the electrical sector, such as energy distributors, need to actively follow the evolution, due to the potential impacts of the connection of a new technology on a large scale. Distributors represent one of the most affected niches, since mini and micro distributed generation is directly connected to the medium or low voltage grid. In this scenario, several challenges present themselves to the utilities, categorized in this paper as: regulatory, technical, commercial, and market. From these perspectives, the objective of this paper is to present the main aspects and obstacles related to the theme, based on a review of the scientific literature.
